How to Email and Solicit a Potential Link Partner for a Link Exchange

Tips and Tricks on how to Soliciting for a Reciprocal Link

When inquiring with webmasters of other web sites for reciprocal referral links, make sure that you use good personalized text in your email message for your link request.

Web site owners, managers and webmasters will receive dozens of email requests every day and if their site is very popular they will receive hundreds of messages daily along with unsolicited messages with promotional advertising also known as spam emails.

I you want to prevent your email request for a link exchange as being considered as spam, it's very important to personalize each and every email request for a link exchange.

Below are Some tips and tricks for preparing your email on asking for a referral link request otherwise known as a reciprocal link request.

To prevent your email from being considered spam, make sure your subject title is not perceived as advertising.

  • An email messages with subject titles like "Link Exchange!" will get deleted without any review of the body of the email. There are way too many link managers out there that are using that tag line and it's become ineffective. Make sure you're unique and state why you'd be a good quality referral to each other.

Keep your salutations personal.

  • Creating personalized email salutations, will receive more responses to your emailed link request. It's recommended that you review the site your looking to exchange links with and send them a description why you'd be good link partners. If you can locate the name of the webmaster or site owner then use their name when contacting for a link exchange. If the site owner's name is Jen, then write to Jen like: "Dear Jen,"
  • Ask yourself: Which email message would you trust more, one that says "Hello webmaster!" or one that says "Hello (your name)"?

Spend time and visit the site

  • Tell the site owner that you like their content, site look, navigation and how it compliments your content. A site about web marketing would be a good referral for a site that only offers radio and television off line marketing and vise versa. Tell them you like their friendly pictures, site them and any articles too. The site owners will not reply to automatically generated emails and will most likely delete your requests if not sent out with a personal touch.

Only include links to your own web site in the email message.

  • Never include links to other web sites or even advertising links. Your email message will look like another spam email message and it will be deleted immediately.

Will your site and your solicited site (link partner) both benefit from linking to each other?

  • If so, state the benefits and why both your sites will make good link partners. Are you offering a quality referral? Do you both have good Google page rank, and are both your links directories indexed within Google with a Google page rank? If your links Directory has a zero page rank and your client has a 3 page rank it will be difficult to acquire that link, but if both of your links pages have the similar page ranks then it would be much easier. If your site pages are new you'll have more success going after newer sites too. Remember all sites had to start from somewhere, it just takes time.

•  Also, make sure your content is similarly themed. If your site is in the same industry as your link partner, then a referral links would benefit both sites. Non similar industry requests may automatically get deleted by the webmaster. If I stated in my site submission form pages that "I only accept relevant themed sites related to my content." Then that's exactly what it means! Don't waste your time if your site couldn't possible offer a quality industry related referral, because I will just delete it. If you can't take the time to read my site requirements then why should I even respond.
