Have you ever wondered if you're on the right track with your link campaign? What if a search engine spider encountered your site and found a few problems, and what might they be? Below is a sample scenario of Problems a search engine spider may encounter for your site:
- Your site has less referrals or back links as compared to your competition.
- Your site has duplicate content
- The quality of your referral links to your site are very poor and unrelated to your content.
- Maybe you are unaware that you're linking to a banned site.
- You have too many back links to your site that have bad or common link text.
- Your site is stagnant and has no new unique content.
Google has a very good tool you can use to evaluate the above problems, which has a "Backwards Links Checker " that gives you the ability to view your backwards links and the ability to analyze that web site link to your site. Google will also give you an indication whether they have penalized or banned the site too, if the site's domain is not within the Google index at all. To figure this out use the "Search Site" operator for this.
The site may also be new, if so it also wouldn't be indexed at all. So be careful when judging a site and find out first if it is only a few weeks old.
You obviously will know if your site content is new and up to date or not. Newly created content is very important for search engine spiders and Google has a "Cache" option that will inform you about the last time Google has visited your site. You want Google to visit your site every day and if Google visited a week or a month ago then Google's spider bot got bored with your site. Since search engine spiders are continuously searching out the web for new content, which is non duplicated and unique, the more content your site offers the higher the chances of a search engine spider will visit. If you add unique content to your site on a daily basis then a search engine spider will return to your site on a daily basis too. The following is a list of Google's operator commands and their definitions and how to operate them. Download and install the Google Toolbar and play with it, you can view your own sites Google page rank and compare it to your competition and also view each others backwards links.
Since Google will only display a percentage of backwards links to your site then you actually have Google does this for some reason which is not clear at this time. Google will give a grade or weight to each link referral to your site and it is thought that by grading your link partners, Google is only giving you credit for those quality links only. If you have a lot of back links it will quickly get tedious to read all the link text to check for duplicity in language so it's better to be safe and adjust your add URL pages to your links directories on a weekly basis and come up with more unique titles relevant to your industry keywords.
